Epilogue

“Trinity leave your brother alone and Steven stop whacking your sister with your wings!” I stared at the two most beautiful children I have seen. They ran up and down the beach Trinity shifting into the form of her brother and Steven flying around hitting her. I felt arms wrap around me I looked up into Anthony face, “Do you think they will ever get along?” he laughed and nodded, “They will soon enough.” “I hope your right.” I looked back out to beach Trinity was now fifteen her long waving brown hair pasted her ribs and her eyes sparkled with a greenish blue like her father. Ken he had just turned eleven and was already taller than his sister and he was the skinniest thing I ever say, he had both of our hair and my eyes. I called to them to come back to the house and they ran to me and hugged me. We all walked back to the beach house Anthony had built with in our second year of marriage it seemed like it was just yesterday we got married though it was seventeen years ago. I walked into the house and I smelled apple pie and of course it was because Anthony, he had taken to cooking like a moth to a flame. We sat down to have the pie and cross hanging from the wall behind Anthony was so beautiful surprisingly it was a wedding gift from Matt. I missed town and its people but this was our home and I wouldn’t have it any other way. I have a wonderful husband and two amazing kids and we were a family. Surely we are different from any other family but a family just the same.

Chapter 9

Ch 9

I looked to the noise and there walked out of the darkness Anthony. I ran to him and threw my arms around him as I did he winced in pain. I looked to see a huge gash on his left wing. “What happened here?” “When you fell you blacked out and William saw that and tried to go after you. I jump in front of the attack and that is how I got this cut. We fought for hours and then I finally remembered the sun.” “The sun?” “You know how it is shaded down him under the trees?” “Yes.” “Well it isn’t above them, so I grabbed him and flew him up beyond the trees and then I threw him high into the sky and then he burst into flames.” “So it is over?” “I am not sure…I do not know if there are more or if more will come to this town. I still think the best thing for us is to get out and go over the mountain.” “Can you still fly?” “Yes but not as fast or as long for now. We can fly to the top were the river starts and set up came till morning.” “Ok let’s go.” He swooped me up and flew straight up to the sky. He flew right to the top and then he started to bob up and down. “You better land.” He nodded and landed on the other side of the river. He set me down and I pulled out a blanket from my backpack for him to lie down on. I kneeled down beside him and hummed the same melody he had hummed to me. He slowly drifted to sleep. I lay beside him and stared into the night sky and hoped the worst was over. I woke the next morning and sat up and looked all around me. I looked next to me and Anthony was still a sleep. I got up and looked around, it was so beautiful I looked out past the trees and there stood Canada. We had made it past the river and now our lives could go on. I moan from behind me I turned to see Anthony trying to sit up. I ran to his side and helped him slowly sit up. I looked at his wing and the cut had closed up over night. He placed his hand on my face, “We made it and now I can I ask you some thing?” “Of course, anything.” “Will you marry me?” I looked into his eyes they were so pure and honest and a light beamed through them. “Of course I will.” I was a little afraid to hug him but he gave me a look saying I couldn’t break him. He pulled me in and wrapped his arms around me. He kissed me forehead and had me lean against him. He got up carrying me with him and then shot right into the sky and went down to the town at the bottom of the mountain

Ch 8

We got our stuff together and I ran down to the front desk to leave my notice. I went back up stairs and waited till the bar hours were near. I went back down and walked out the front door. I looked to the bar to see if William was there and he was there getting punching in his card. I looked to the forest and calmly walked towards it. I was half way there then I heard a crash, I looked behind me and a table was lying outside the bar and glass was everywhere. People gathered around it and I made a run for the forest then I heard sirens all over the town. I made it to the tree line and looked back for one last time. Down by the bar there was police dragging out Matt and William except I could see the William was grinning. Just then he threw the police officer that was holding him off of him and then open is mouth and screeched a horrible sound. I looked above me to see Anthony flying above and he swooped down and grabbed me. He flew as fast as he could to the edge of the forest to the foot of the mountain. He flew down and set me down, “I need to rest for a moment.” “But what about William won’t he come after us after all he saw me, I could tell.” “It will only be for a moment.” Just then a big rustle of the leaves came and then there stood William with blood on his lips. “I always knew you weren’t what you seemed Anthony and to think you pick to steal a vampire’s girl, not wise not wise at all.” “I am not your girl, and I was never truly yours to begin with. And Keith is not the only one who is not what they seem to be—“ “Oh save your breath I know what you are,” my heart skipped a beat “I knew since the first time you changed here in this town.” “Why didn’t you ever say anything?” “Oh like you would tell me. Though I am sure you told Anthony already after all you love him and you never loved me because like you said you were never truly mine.” “If you knew that I didn’t love you then why did you even try to keep going out with me?” “Because you’re the first inhuman girl I have ever met and I wanted to see what I could do with you, you were kind of like a new toy.” “You Pig!” “Oh like you haven’t tried anything with Anthony your angel.” “Well for information no I haven’t.” “Hmm that is very interesting and why is that?” “Wouldn’t you like to know!” I backed up and stood next to Anthony. “Well don’t think your leaving here in one piece unless Hayden you come back with me.” “Never.” “Ok have it your way.” Just then William mouth opened and his fangs grew, Anthony pushed me down and stood in front of me. As I fell to the ground I hit my head on a rock and then it went black…

I woke up and stare blankly in the sky. What had happened and where was I? I sat up slowly and saw I was exactly where I had fallen. I looked around to see blood and feathers everywhere. Anthony! Where was Anthony and where was William? I stood up and circled all around. There was no one to be seen. I heard a rustle of the bushes.

Ch 7

I woke to a loud bang on the front door and I sat straight up. I looked around and saw that Anthony was nowhere to be found. I walked to the living room and there was a note on the table,

Hayden,
I didn’t want wake I went back to my place to start packing. I will be back as soon as the coast is clear. Love you.

Anthony

I put the note in my room and hid it in my dresser. There was another bang on the door. I walked calmly up to the door, “Who is it?” “Who else would it be? It’s me William.” Crap, “One minute.” I put some better clothes on and then opened the door. “Finally what took you?” “Um I was getting changed. What is your problem?” “Problem? I don’t have a problem.” “Yeah you do! Listen it is best you not come in ok I want to tell you something.” “What?” he stared into my eyes with so much anger “I think it would be best if we take a break from each other, you know see other people?” “What!” “I am sorry but you have changed too much since I started going out with you and I don’t like it at all. I think it is best we break up.” He looked at me and he got a little smirk on his face and grabbed my face and made me look into his eyes. “I don’t think you want to break up with me Hayden. I think you should keep going out with me, you have no idea what I am capable of.” Oh yeah right I know exactly what you are, I just looked him in the eye and took his hand from my face and pulled it down and backed away a little. “Goodbye William.” As I closed the door and saw that he was shocked for some reason as if he really thought I was going to change my mind. I closed it and locked the door though I am not sure if they could hold him back. I went to my room and looked out the window. I saw William walk into the bar and sit down at the counter. I opened the window so some air could get in and walked into the kitchen to make some lunch.
I put some water on the stove and then heard a loud thud from the bedroom. Afraid of it being William a grabbed a knife and walked to my room. I opened the door and saw Anthony standing there wings spread out with bags of stuff in his hands. “What is the knife for?” “What? Oh I thought you were someone else.” “Oh I see you thought a knife could kill a vampire?” “Hey it couldn’t hurt.” He just laughed and put his stuff down and opened his arms wide waiting for me to come and greet him. I put the knife down on the dresser and ran over and wrapped my arms around his neck. “Next time I don’t care if you sleep until noon I will not ever leave you till you wake up.” I looked up to and him and said, “That’s sounds like a plan.” And I kissed him; he bent he head to deepen the kiss. We held each other for a couple of moments and then we headed to the living room. He sat down on the couch and I finished the lunch I was making. I offered him some and he gladly took a whole plate’s worth of pasta.
After that he sat back on the couch and I was walking towards to the window when he took his wing and wrapped it around me and pulled me towards him. He pulled me right on top of him and ran him fingers threw my hair and hummed that melody he had hummed earlier. I asked him what is was and he told me it was the song playing on the radio the day he first saw me “All Around Me” by Flyleaf. He never forgot that day he said when he saw me walking down the road I looked like something out of a fairytale and when he caught me looking at him and William he never felt happier. I looked up to his face and kissed him when the kiss broke he was blushing. “I never thought something like this could happen to me, finding someone like you someone different like me. I love you Hayden so much and I will never leave you.” “I love you too and I will hold you to that promise.” I laughed and rested my head on his chest. “Sounds like a plan. Hayden what do you think we should do, you know about living here?” I sat up and asked, “What do you mean?” then he sat up “Well I am suppose to be dead and William is not going to give up that easily.” “So are you saying we should run?” “Well not run just go somewhere we can live freely and I can walk around without people thinking I am a ghost.” “I don’t know…I mean I want to leave to but don’t you think that William will just track me down?” “He could I guess unless we cross running water vampires aren’t suppose to be able to do that.” “Sounds like a plan but where would we go? Where is there running water here?” “There is a river over the mountains, we could go there.” “Ok, but how? Do we just drop everything and skip town?” “Well we could pack what we could and leave a notice at the front desk.” “Ok but how are we going to leave? Someone could see you or better yet William could see you.” “Well I could leave during his bar hours and you could leave anytime.” “Ok when do we leave?” “Tonight.”

He had wings on his back, no not tattooed on his back, but actual wings coming out of his back. He turned around slowly and looked at me with so much sadness in his eyes. “So you’re a—“ “Angel?” “Yeah that.” “I don’t know if I am or not. Things aren’t always what they seem to appear. You see I got my wings on my fourteenth birthday and my parents weren’t sure why and so they kicked me out. Hayden you have to understand I am still me I am still the Anthony who loves you it just I have wings and I am not sure why I do. I have found others like me but I never stayed with them for they had no answers for so I came here where people don’t seem to ask question and nothing ever happens that is until you came here.” He stared at me, “Why are you staring at me like that?” “I don’t know it just things have really changed since you got here.” “Well I don’t know about that,” I laughed I was getting worried he told me his secret and he was different like me so why shouldn’t I tell him “ok the truth is you right about things not being as they appear. I am not as I appear.” “What do you mean?” “I mean I am not human or at least I don’t think I am because a normal person should not be able to do this.” I got up from the bed and I change in to wolf, then to Matt and then back into me. “So this is your real form right your not like some guy?” I laughed as I walked towards him “Yes this is the real me.” I walked right up to him and looked him the eyes. “I knew you were always more than what you seemed. I could see it in your eyes.” I laughed and looked at his wings, “Can I?” he nodded and I place my hand on his wing and it was so amazing the feathers were so hard yet so soft and it was like nothing I could ever dream of. I traced his wing to back and trace the space where it connected. “I guess we are meant to be, I mean look at us to different beings neither of us human we shouldn’t we be together,” I looked into eyes but there was something different like they were hiding something “unless there is something your not telling me.” “You know how I said things are not as they appear I wasn’t just speaking about me.” “You weren’t?” “He doesn’t know I know but William isn’t human either.” “What! He’s not?” “No he is not, he is a vampire.” “He is a what! He is a vampire?” “Yes when he attacked me that was how I knew for sure. And when Alex went missing I knew he had something to do with it.” “All this time he could have killed me. Is he behind the missing people?” “Yes he is, I try to stop them from going into the woods when I know he is going hunting but they didn’t listen and they got killed and he hid there remains over the mountains.” “But doesn’t the sun kill him?” “No not here it is very weak because of all the trees and it only hurts him if he is out to much in it when there is nothing blocking it then it could hurt him enough to kill him. Listen he is not a bad guy it just when he gets thirsty he can’t control himself and after he feeds he back to normal just not for a couple of days. When he went over here last night I was worried that he would have killed you he hasn’t been eating lately except for Alex and I think he is saving his thirst for you.” “Me.” He nodded then he drew me close to him looked in my eyes and spoke “I will never let him hurt you ever even if that means I have to watch his every move and stay here with you.” “How fast can you have your stuff moved in?” I laughed but I really did want him here though. “If you really mean that I could be all moved in by noon today.” I looked him in the eyes and nodded my head. He kissed my cheek and hugged me. We went back to the bed and he kept his shirt and coat off and laid next to me. We were under the same covers this time and I reached over and turned off the light. He wrapped his arms around my chest and then wrapped his wings around our bodies. My eyes shut as he hummed a sweet soft melody and I drifted into a slumber.

I woke to the sound of pounding on my door. I got up and look outside the streets were almost flooded. I ran to the door and opened it and as soon as I did Anthony fell in on top of me. I looked up and his eyes were closed and he had cuts and bruises all over. I picked myself up and pulled him up and set him on the couch. I ran to the bathroom and got towels and bowl and filled it with hot water. I ran back to Anthony who was still unconscious, I sat beside him and place the first towel on his arm. I tried to take off his coat but then he sat straight up and grabbed my neck. He looked into my eyes and relaxed his grip and lowered his hand and then fell back over. Ok now I know not to touch his coat. I rolled up his sleeve and bandaged up the wounds. I went to the kitchen and boil more water, I heard a moan over my shoulder and I looked to see Anthony trying to sit up again, I turned off the flame and rushed over to him. I sat beside him and helped him up slowly, “What happened to you,” I looked at the clock it was 3 in the morning. “Who did this?” “Do you even have to ask?” He looked into my eyes, “No, he couldn’t have not William.” “Oh trust me he could,” he mumbled something under his breath but I couldn’t make it out. “He was upset with you and was even more upset I went over to your apartment to make sure you were alright. He was eyeing me the entire time at work and when we were walking home he attacked me. I ran into the woods and that was an even worse idea, he found me there and he attacked me there. I laid there for an hour pretending to be dead so that he would leave, I heard him say something about you and so as soon as I knew he was gone I came here and that is it.” “Oh my, are you alright?” “Yeah I am alright now thanks to you, and sorry about earlier with the whole choking you thing I just it is a reaction I have when anyone does that to me.” “It is ok.”
We sat there in silence for a while and then he asked, “So what are you going to do?” “What do you mean? Are you talking about William?” “Yes I am, I don’t want to see you get hurt and if you break up with him he might hurt you and if you don’t he still might.” “I don’t know, I think I might have to break up with him because of what he did, and what he will keep on doing if I continue to go out with him. You mention something about him talking about me?” “Yes I did I think he might come here which is why I came here to make sure you were alright.” “Well he hasn’t come yet…” “Hayden I think I should stay the night, just to make sure he doesn’t come, I will sleep on the couch.” “Don’t be silly, your hurt and you need you rest if anything your sleeping in my bed and I am sleeping on the couch.” “It is your place and you’re sleeping in your own bed.” “There is only one thing to do then.” I laughed he looked at me in confusion “And what is that?” “We both sleep in my bed,” he looked at me in shock “under different covers of course.” “Of course” he laughed. We headed to the bedroom and I rushed to the front door and locked it and rushed right back. “Aren’t you going to take off your coat?” “No I rather not.” “Ok.” I went to the closet and got the more blankets and spread them on the bed. He went under his and I went under mine. I turned off the light next to me.
“Can I ask you something?” I turned to him and then he turn to me to answer. “Sure what is on your mind Hayden?” “We are friends right?” “Right.” “Well do you think as me as only a friend or more.” I could see the color on his face brighten “Well your like my best friend and,” there was a moment of silence “I have always liked you well, more like loved you.” “Loved! Why didn’t you ever say anything?” “Because you were with William and he was my best friend and I didn’t want to come between it.” “Well I got some thing to tell you.” “And what is that?” I brushed his hair away from his perfect face and said, “I wanted you first.” “What!?” “In the beginning I wanted you first but you never really showed any interest.” He cheeks shown bright red and I could see then perfectly even though it was pitch black. “So as you can guess Anthony I love you too.” I scooted closer to him and kissed is perfectly shaped lips. He pulled me in closer to where we were chest to chest. His arm wrapped around my body and slide up and down my back. Our kiss broke and I placed my head against his chest. “You trust me right?” “With every ounce of my being.” “Alright then I have to ask you something.” “Oh and what is that?” “What is with the coat?” “What? What do you mean?” “I mean why is it you never take it off?” “Because.” “Because why? You said you trusted me. What is it some horrible scar? What ever it is I promise it will not change how I feel about you.” “You promise?” “I promise with every ounce of my being.” “Ok it is hiding something.” “What?” “I will show you if you don’t scream.” “I won’t I promise you.” “Ok then turn on the lights.” I rolled over and turned on the light. He sat up and then stood and unbuttoned his shirt and then turned his back to me. I never realized how long the coat was. Then he pulled one arm out than the other and then dropped his shirt and his coat down to the ground. I sat the in amazement and just stared at him with an opened mouth.

Ch 3

My alarm went off and I got up to see what was on the news. Nothing as usual, I headed down to see if I had gotten any bills yet, there was none but there was an envelope with my name I ask the lady who worked there if she saw who dropped it off she said it was very late she couldn’t make out a face. I went up to room and open it, inside were newspaper articles of the strange disappearances and the sightings. There was a note attached to it.

Hayden, I heard you were looking for information on this. This is all you will find, and you won’t ask any more questions if you know what is good for you.
A friend

A friend, oh yeah like this person really is my friend. I studied the articles and but them into my notebook. I headed out to look around the town some more. It was a quite town nothing ever seems to be going on. I walked around and headed to the houses to see if anything was going on there. I was walking down the street and then I heard someone call my name, I turned around and saw William waving at me. We met each other and started to walk to the little park near by. “So how do you like it hear so far?” “It is nice, really quite though. Nothing really seems to be going on here.” “Yeah it has been like that for awhile now. So has anyone caught your eye yet?” he gave me a smirk. “No, not really.” I looked away. “Oh we’ll have to fix that now won’t we.” He said laughing and we kept on walking then we got to a bench. “William would know of anyone that would want to stop people from finding out more about this place?” “No, why is someone threatening you?” “Oh no, I was just making sure.” He grabbed my hand and held it and looked into my eyes, his hands were kind of cold and his eyes felt so luring. “If anyone is threatening you tell me, I don’t want you to get hurt.” “Oh no, no one has like I said.” It doesn’t help since I don’t know who it is. He still held on to my hand as we talked.
It was getting late and we had work in about an hour so he walked me to the bar. As we walked in Anthony seemed kind of upset about me and William holding hands. I walked over and got my stuff and got to work. Work went by really fast to day and Matt didn’t try anything today. When work was over I put my stuff back and William asked to walk me home. “Like I told Anthony yesterday I live right over there I will be fine.” “Yeah but you didn’t have someone threatening you then so I would feel better if I did.” “Fine.” He walked with me across the street and I opened the door to the apartments and said, “Ok you walked me bye.” “Well what about to your door to your room someone could be in the building?” “Oh fine.” He walked with me up the door and I said goodbye and he kissed me on the corner of my lip and it felt strangely cold. I entered in to my room and closed the door. I walked to my window and saw him walk away. I closed the blinds and went to bed.

Ch 4

I woke up around 10:00 since I forgot to set my alarm. I got ready and headed to store get a phone. I walked to the store and got a land phone for the room and a cell phone for me. I walked back to room but got stopped by the lady at the front desk “There is a package for you here.” She pointed to the one on the floor “Thanks” I picked it up and brought it back to the room. I set up the phone and open the package. Inside was a rose and a note attached to it, it said
I really enjoy spending time with you please meet me at the local diner for lunch my treat.
From William

Wait that is in about an hour oh crap! I hurried to the diner and saw him sitting there; he looked up and waved me over. I went over to the booth and sat down. “I thought weren’t going to show.” “Sorry I just got back in and there was the package.” The waitress came around ask what we wanted. I ordered a salad and he order water he said he ate before he came. Which confused me but oh well. We talked about work and how crazy it can be. He asked me what I did before I came here. “Well I used to live in the Europe until this year. I traveled a lot because my parents kicked me out once I turned fifteen.” “Wow why did they kick you out?” I froze I couldn’t tell him the truth so I just said it was complicated. I finished eating and thanked him. Things went as they usually did I went home and read more about the town and got ready for work. When I went downstairs there was an envelope in my box I opened it and all it said was things aren’t always like they seem. I put in my backpack and went to work. The entire time that was on my mind; every time I looked at William I wondered if it was about him or if he had been the one who sent it. I got done with work and William walked me home again. We go to the door and he kissed me goodbye and asked if we could start going out and I said sure. I got in and put the letter in my notebook. I went to the window and looked out into the town could I not be the only one? I went to bed and the phrase repeated in my head over and over.

My alarm went off at 7:00 today and I rolled over and looked at a picture of William and me. Things have been going great between us except that he has a temper on him. He gets really mad when guys flirt with me and he can be kind of dirty sometimes. Sometimes I feel like he isn’t telling me the whole truth I can’t blame him I’m not telling him a lot either. I got up and got ready for the day ahead. Anthony and I are going to catch a movie with some of his friends. Anthony and I are getting along great he is like my best friend now. Sometimes I can tell he envies William since him and me are going out now. I headed over to the movie theater and there was Anthony with Matt and two other guys I have seen just never met, he introduced me to them there names were Brian and James both were very tall and blonde. We headed inside and got our seats and of course it was some horror film I guess those are Matt’s favorites. This was about a vampire and angel who are best friends that fall in love with the same person and have a fight. It was really gruesome movie. We got out and I said my goodbyes and headed over to Williams. I was walking by and I heard a scream except it was animal not human so I didn’t worry about it and kept on walking. I got to his house and knock on his door I waited about two minutes and was about to leave when the door opened. “Hayden what are you doing here?” “I come here every Friday before work remember you’re the one who thought of this.” I pushed through the door and the room was very dark I turned on one of the far lights and saw that the place was trashed. I turned to William and he had a red stain on the caller of his shirt. I walked towards him and place my hand on it “Oh did you hurt yourself or something?” “No! No I did not hurt myself I was cutting meat and it got on me.” “Ok! Sorry I ask.” This is what I was talking about there were days like this before but most the time he was very charming and sweet. “So did you throw a party or something?” “What?” I held up a couple pieces of his clothing that was lying on the floor. “Oh that I was…looking for something.” “Oh I see ok.” He cleared the couch and we sat down on it. He apologized for acting the way he did he just get really edgy on certain days. I told it was ok it happens to all of us. He smiled and I just melted because time he does that it is always such a perfect smile. He leaned in and pressed his lips against mine. His breath was cool and he grabbed my hips and pulled me in closer.
Then my alarm went off on my phone and scared us both. I looked down at it and it was time for work. I got up and pulled him up and we walked to work. We be walking and randomly he bump into me and start laughing, then he would pulled me in to tell me something and he would just whisper hi. We got to work and things went pretty well guys still tried to grab my ass but that was normal working there. Matt stayed clear of me because William was keeping a close eye on him as usual. A rush came in today of like ten guys from a college or something and the worst part was I knew one. Alex Kingsbury six foot, athletic, red hair and brown eyes not to mention my old neighbor/flame. This was not good because he might know something about me being a shape shifter. I walked pass him and went to bus a table at the other side of the bar. Hours passed and no word from him was going well until I heard one phrase “Can I get a refill?” I looked over and Alex was holding up his cup. I walked over looking if Matt was anywhere and of course he was flirting with every girl in the bar. I took his cup and turned around quickly. I walked up to William to get the refill and I walked back to Alex. I set it down and before I could walk away he said, “Hey do I know you?” “No, no you don’t” “Yeah, yeah I do you’re Hayden right? Yeah you’re Hayden from next-door back in London.” “Yes I am ok? Now leave me be.” “What no kiss for your old flame?” “I do believe she said to leave her be.” Anthony came from behind him and put his hand on his shoulder. “Oh and what are you her bloody boyfriend?” “No that would be me.” William came from the other side of Anthony. “Oh. Well I think I will be going now.” Then Alex ran out of the bar. They went back to the counter I walk over there and said thanks. The rest of the time things were pretty quite. I got off work and walk home, this time with me wanting William to be there. We got to the door and he asked if I wanted him to stay the night and I said no. I don’t do sleep over with guys so he leaned in and kissed my cheek. I walked inside, closed the door and locked it behind me. I walked to my bed and went to sleep.
