Ch 1
Things haven’t been the same since, well since my mom died about four years ago, I was thirteen. My mom was great her name was Carmen, she was an inspector and she had so many great adventures, she even met my dad on one of her adventures. Her adventures came to an end when she was shot in a drive by. I still live with my dad, don’t get me wrong I love my dad but well he did lack certain knowledge when I came to girl stuff. Lucky we have Penelope, our maid and my closest friend, she has helped me through my awkward years and I owe so much to her. We live in a medium sized apartment in Nashville, Tennessee; I don’t know too many people here because we just moved here last month. I haven’t even met my neighbors yet. I guess I should describe myself a little, well I am seventeen, I have long brown hair that goes down to my waist, I have evergreen eyes, I am about five foot ten, and my name is Hannah.
I walked around the apartment in search for my laptop that I still haven’t found since we moved in. “Dad have you seen the laptop yet,” no answer “Dad?” still no answer “Penelope have you seen my dad?” “No ma’am, not since yesterday.” “Ok thanks.” I looked inside his room and he wasn’t there, but there was pieces of paper lead to a chest by his bed. I went over to the chest and there was a note behind it.
Hannah,
There is something I should have told you a long time ago, but I cannot tell you much. All I can tell you is that I love you and things are not as they seem. We moved here for a reason and that reason was to get way from trouble but it seems that it has found me once again. In this note I have left you a key, this key will open this chest. Inside you will find everything you need. I need to you to get away, far away. You need to pack and tell Penelope that you need to visit your uncle and you will be home soon. After you walk out the door you will be on the run and you will need help. Next door there is the son of a good friend of mine; his son’s name is Alex. Give him the note you find inside the chest and he will understand. I am sorry you must be involved in my mess.
Love you always,
Dad
I opened the chest to find a folder, my laptop, a note, CDs, a cell phone, a necklace with a weird symbol on it, and disks. I grabbed my old messenger bag from his closet and stuffed it all inside it. I went to my room and started to pack a bag with all I would be able to carry. I looked down the hall to see that Penelope had already gone to the store. I wrote her a note telling her of leaving to visit my uncle and that I did not know when I would be back. I walked out the door and walked down the hall to Alex’s door and knocked on it.
“Hello? Alex?” “Yeah, one minute!” just then the door opened, “can I help you?” “Yeah, I live next door and my father told me to talk to you.” “Ok?” “Can I come in?” “Sure why not.” He gestured me in, “It is a nice place you got here.” “Oh thanks.” I sat down at the table in his kitchen and he sat across from me. “So what brings you here?” “This,” I handed him the note “my father told me to give this to you and that you would know what to do.” He read the note and his eyes grew wider as he went on. “My father has told me this might happen someday.” “What? That what might happen?” “Your father was taken by some people him and my father used to work with. I have been trying for this for years but I never knew that you would be involved in this or that you even existed.” “So what exactly are you talking about?” “I can’t tell you too much for right now, mainly because I don’t know a lot but I will tell you some things in the cab.” “Cab?” “Yes, we need to get out of here as soon as we can.” He grabbed some things and led me out to the street and signaled for a cab. A cab pulled up and we got in. “So what do you know Alex?” “Well your father and mine did some things with a group of people back when he was younger, and now they have caught up with him now. My dad didn’t tell me much just that if some thing were ever to happen to your dad that I would have to go meet up with my father in Italy at his safe house. He had trained me with every thing he knows.” “So what do we do now?” “I have had a plane ticket on reserved but I can get another one on the way there.” He got on the phone and started to negotiate tickets, as I watched him I finally had time to observe him. He had shaggy brown hair, blue eyes, and he was a little scruffy. He got off the phone and smiled, “So tell me about you after all we are going to spending quite a bit of time together.” I laughed, “Well I am seventeen, and I just moved here not too long ago, I was hoping to go to college for art but right now I am not sure about anything right now. I really don’t know what else to say since you know so much about my family already. So why don’t you tell me about you?” “Ok, well I am twenty-one, I am a art major, I live on my own as you saw, and yeah I guess we find out more as we go along.” He smiled at me as we pulled up to the airport. “Oh wait, I don’t have a passport!” he chuckled, “No problem, let me see your laptop.” I pulled the laptop out and handed it to him. “There should be a program on here to help us with that, here it is! Smile!” I laughed and did as he said and next thing I knew I had a passport. I stepped out of the cab and he paid for it. He took my hand to show me the way to where our tickets were being held. We went through all of airport security and then to our flight and took our seats.
